Boston offers a
wealth of history and culture, from the charming streets of Beacon Hill
to the historic North End to Boston Common, the oldest public park in
the United States. Indeed, Boston is a city of firsts: Boston was the
first city in the U.S. to open a public library, a subway system and
public schools. Boston’s compact downtown is a pedestrian’s dream (and
a driver’s nightmare), and a walking tour of all that Boston has to
offer – both old and new – should be on any visitors agenda. The Freedom
Trail marks the most important Boston sites from the Revolutionary War
era, including Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere House, the Old North Church,
and the site of the Boston Massacre. Not content to live in the past,
Boston hosts a rich cultural scene highlighted by the Museum of Fine Art
and the Boston Pops, among many others.
