Chicago is one of the
most popular destinations for conventions and trade shows for many
reasons, including its geographically central location and its status as
a major travel hub. Chicago’s attractions abound: The Field Museum
should be on the agenda for every Chicago visitor, as should the Shedd
Aquarium, which features the Wild Reef exhibit – the largest collection
of sharks in North America. The Grant Park Music Festival is a
summer-long series of free classical music concerts that draw residents
and visitors alike to the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. The 24-acre Millennium
Park opened in July 2004 to rave reviews. The $450 million development
is one of the highlights of downtown Chicago as a center for art, music
and culture. The park includes interactive art exhibits, ice skating and
live music. For sports fans, the MLB Cubs and White Sox, NBA Bulls and
NFL Bears are among the professional teams that call Chicago home.
McCormick Place
The McCormick Place
Campus is among the most complete and versatile convention facilities –
and it’s only getting better. Currently, McCormick Place is comprised of
three buildings connected by a Grand Concourse. McCormick Place South is
the largest of the three, and it offers 840,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space
on one floor, as well as 43 meeting rooms, a 33,000 sq. ft. Grand
Ballroom and a 20,000 sq. ft. Vista Room. McCormick Place North
contains two exhibit halls totaling more than 700,000 sq. ft., as well
as 29 meeting rooms and a 60,000 sq. ft. lobby. The Lakeside Center is
the third component of the current campus, and it offers 583,000 sq. ft.
of exhibit space, 400 banquet rooms, a ballroom and a 4,000-seat
theater. McCormick Place West (slated to open in 2008) will enhance this
already formidable facility with the addition of more exhibition space,
bringing the total to 2.2 million sq. ft. of exhibit area with a central
concourse to connect all four facilities.
