Philadelphia, the
birthplace of America’s freedom and democracy, is the perfect blend of
new and old, big and small. With cobblestone streets and a wealth of
historical landmarks including the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall,
Philadelphia affords a glimpse of the past. But the fifth-largest U.S.
city offers so much more: art, cuisine, architecture and a vibrant city
center with a compact, pedestrian-friendly downtown. No trip to
Philadelphia is complete without weighing in on the greatest debate in
the city’s illustrious and colorful history: who makes the ultimate
Philly Cheese Steak, Geno’s or Pat’s? Geno’s Steaks and Pat’s King of
Steaks are the two South Philadelphia establishments that duke it out
for the title of best cheese steak sandwich in Philly (and thus, the
best, period). Try them both (you’ll want to dedicate two days to this
taste test) and try to pick a winner.
Pennsylvania Convention
Center
The Pennsylvania
Convention Center, much like Philadelphia itself, strikes a balance
between classic style and modern amenities. With 1.3 million sq. ft. of
exhibit, meeting and ballroom space, the PCC is among the largest
convention centers in the region. Wireless internet access is available
throughout the concourse, but visitors will have more to look at than
their laptops: The PCC boasts a sizable collection of contemporary art,
and the selection of artwork on permanent display includes a vast array
of work that reflects the diversity of Philadelphia. Convention
attendees should take advantage of the free public tours of the
collection. Located in the heart of downtown Philadelphia, the PCC is
within walking distance of shopping, fine dining, historical landmarks
and major hotels.
